Facebook update from Help Anton

Day +47 Today was another great day! Anton got his AFO and SMO (leg braces) today and they are so cute. He had then on for quite a while today and had no skin issues at all! Our favorite pt came today and Anton walked half way around the BMT floor only stopping twice for a rest. Then we took his rocket ship out in the hall and he enjoyed scooting around with that. Anton has been without bandages for the past 2 days and he only had one very tiny blister today other than that his skin has done amazing. We are seriously so thankful!!! A full bath and dressing change today only took thirty minutes, THIRTY MINUTES, y'all!!! Before transplant a bath and dressing change would take anywhere from one and a half to two hours. I am no longer dreading it but actually looking forward to getting it done. Anton still hates his bath but I'm hoping in time he will start to enjoy it. His WBC went up today and so did his ANC. In time as his neutrophils get stronger they should be able to fight off the antibody that is suppressing his counts, until then he will get GCSF to help raise those numbers. And my favorite and most exciting news. Anton has had two blood tests done that showed that he was 100% engrafted with his donors cells. I was very excited about this but I knew the most accurate results were going to come from his bone marrow. Well we got the results of his bone marrow engraftment back today and he is 99% engrafted with his donors cells. This means that 99% of the cells in his body are his donors!!! We could not be more thrilled with this number. Kids with EB who go through transplant normally don't have very high engraftment because they give these kids less chemo and radiation. The doctors said they are happy to see 60% engraftment in this trial so for him to be 99% engrafted is HUGE. We are seriously so excited!!! I think the plan is to keep Anton in the hospital until his rash is a little bit more under control and they want his skin infections cleared up. They told us about a solution called potassium permanganate it disinfects the skin and is a mild solution. They wanted us to use it to try to kill all the bad bacteria on Anton's skin. Actually an EB Mom (@gabriella McCann) researched this product and used it on her daughter and they were so impressed they are suggesting it to other EB families!! Anyway we are using that in hopes to have less skin infections so that his cells can go toward growing healthy skin instead of fighting off infections. I am very excited to try this and hoping it works great for Anton. I think that is all of our exciting news! For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
